Events of the last month have treated us to renewed hope in democracy's survival, kindling the energy and enthusiasm to reject the extremist-turned-mainstream campaign to end the American experiment. I remain perplexed that the race is close, that any rational mind could settle on the chaos, incoherence, criminality, mendacity, and tyranny Trump and his party represent, that democracy could give way to a manifestly wretched alternative.
