Plus they’ll continue to stock the shelves during normal opening hours so you have to navigate around those people plus the people doing online orders at the same time 😔

This sort of thing annoys me so much. It’s like restaurants that want you to order using an iPad. It’s fancy and fun the first time, but then you realise it’s just them shifting work over onto fully paying customers to maximise their profits. Call me old fashioned, but human interaction with real employees is the way.

Sweden miles ahead. They’ve had this system for years. And they’re not exactly anti worker there.

I don't mind this. It makes self checkout a lot easier for the bigger shops at the beginning of the week or before the weekend as you don't scan everything at the checkout. Get in, grab what we need, head to checkout to pay, and go. It also helps avoid poor packing by the person at the checkout (my parents complain about that a lot).

I can’t say my purpose of visiting Woolies was the human interaction… If I can just scan it at the moment of taking it from the shelf, then take trolley to the car without the need to take everything out and back in during checkout (and some annoying errors on self checkouts), I’m all up for it

If a cashier makes a mistake, it's a mistake. If you make a mistake, it's theft.

The only thing you do extra in self service is scan the barcode. And you don't have to make random idle chit chat, which works for me. Use somewhere else if you don't like it.

Huge for some of us with specific disabilities, and for me at least more safe and accessible than having groceries delivered or using current self checkout options. At least, if people treat these properly and don't trash them. You're almost 100% not going to be forced to use these at all.
