Macchi M39 at the Italian Air Force Museum.
This remarkable aircraft, designated MM.76, was piloted by Mario de Bernardi to a first-place victory with an average speed of 396.698 km/h (246.497 mph), setting a new world speed record for seaplanes. Just four days later, on 17 November 1926, de Bernardi pushed MM.76 even further, achieving a new world speed record of 416.618 km/h (258.874 mph) over a 3 km (1.9 mi) course at Hampton Roads, Virginia, USA. A true marvel of aviation history!
