Because nobody actually shouts PHI out in a waiting room or a pharmacy??

Seriously! A few months ago I was picking up my prescription and they very loudly asked me if my duloxetine dosage had been increased. I understand the need to confirm that information, but go ahead and announce to everyone in CVS that I'm on psych meds. I tell people freely in attempts to help destigmatize mental illness, but that's my decision, not anyone else's.

I work in hospital administration, and I assure you this is a HIPAA violation. Aside from your name, any other identifying info, including medications, conditions, etc. should be discussed privately. I would be filing complaints to hospital management/patient experience.

The glares I get when a pharmacist wants all my personal info to give me a prescription and I refuse to answer and just show my ID. 🙄 I also always use a fake name at Starbucks after I've had creepers pretend to know me because baristas write my name so big on the cup everyone can read it. No thank you!

The amount of HIPAA violations I see in every office. I go up to give my name, they have patient records all within view. I was trained in HIPAA at an inpatient psych facility. Extremely strict about HIPAA. I can’t believe how lacks some offices are.

I recently went to a dermatologist. When telling them what I was there for, they had me go back and schedule the procedure with the receptionist. The doctor walks me to the receptionist and then LOUDLY tells the receptionist AND A FULL WAITING ROOM to schedule me for said procedure.🤦‍♀️
