I want to try Pilates but I keep hearing the big chains aren’t great… any suggestions or tips on finding a place to start would be much appreciated gymthreads

You’ll find your best fit I have no doubt but I like the fun we have at our big chain - T just hit her 1000th class this morning and we have 2 members both hitting 2000 classes each by year end 💙. You’ll find what works for you - you’ll know it !!! Best wishes

My advice is to try them all! Some people like the big chains, and others like the boutique traditional studios. Use up all the new member offers and pick when you find your flavour. This is what I did, and I don’t regret it 2.5 years later I still try new studios and use more than one! It’s down to the instructors x

Find a boutique studio. They usually have new client specials. Tbh it would be great if you start with privates or even a Duet (bring your gym bestie & split the cost!). That way you kind of understand the lingo a bit and go through some of the basics so you’re not lost in a class setting. Pilates is a little nuanced and each studio is different. There are different methods so try different places and find the studio(s) or instructor for you!

Hi! I highly recmmend finding a Classical Pilates studio - particularly a studio whose teachers trained under Real Pilates in NYC. The gold standard in the industry. - im currently a student & apprentice- and they are THE BEST. It’s really a system and a full body and mind workout. Tough AF! But you will learn a lot and will get stronger. Yes it is not a cheap class.. but think of it as an Investment for ur health.

I recommend going with a classical Pilates company or a well-known Pilates company within the industry, like stott Pilates or basi Pilates. I’ve been to a big chain like club Pilates (not great most of the time), to a smaller local boutique (better) now I’m a student training to become a certified Pilates instructor at basi (they are worldwide) and the difference in my progress is unreal!

When it comes to places like CP it really can vary so much franchise to franchise so I wouldn’t necessarily count them out immediately. It also really is so dependent on what kind of vibe your wanting and what style of Pilates your interested in. Honestly trying a couple places will be your best bet. Read reviews, ask around. You’ll find a place! ❤️

A lot of big chains are independently owned and operated. So there are some amazing ones out there! It’s about finding the right instructor for you and they may work at a chain 💕
