As a woman who travels alone a lot, I am seeing the trend more and more. Have you done a solo trip? Why do you travel alone? Were you ever afraid? … I want to hear these stories….#solotravel

I prefer to travel alone. I’ve had moments when I was afraid (getting lost in the rainforest, not being able to reach my kayak where I left it), but overall these brief moments are worth the joy I get from solo travel.

I like to do what I want, when I want so solo travel has always suited me! It was never really solo though because you talk to WAY more people along the way than if you were in a couple or a group

I'm afraid when people, like the driver or others, ask me if I’m traveling alone. As a female solo traveler, I usually say, 'My friend is waiting for me at that place.

I have been traveling solo since I was a teenager! I am about to leave for a 50 day trip for my 50th. I love it. I have come to learn I love 1:1 time with people but otherwise I love a lot of things that are better done alone - reading, writing, painting, etc. Of course you also meet people along the way and that is such fun.

For me, traveling alone is one of life’s little luxuries. A surprising fearlessness comes over me. It’s like slipping through the wardrobe into Narnia, a completely different world, a whole new life, where I can reinvent myself if I want to. Going back through the wardrobe has its ups and downs.

I traveled with a boyfriend for years and he always said I wouldn't go anywhere if it wasn't for him...so I planned my first solo trip and have been doing mostly solo trips since then. I love it. You have to be aware of your surroundings and sometimes lie that you're with friends, but to me it's worth it.

I solo travel a lot. Initially more practical / I had a strong desire to see a particular place and no one else was free. Increasingly though I like the freedom to do whatever I want - if I want to get up at 7am to go to a temple I can. Biggest downside would be night time - often don’t feel safe to walk home alone but other than that solo travel is wonderful.

I'm a solo female traveler and have been to 67 countries. It's nothing special. I enjoy traveling alone because it allows me to avoid coordinating with others and focus solely on my own needs.

My first real solo trip was 1983 - roadtrip through France. Then 1990 backpacking in Egypt. Honestly, when I arrived I thought I was crazy. Almost midnight, alone at the airport, no accommodation booked. I survived - and loved it. Now I am just about to leave for another adventure - travelling by public transport through Norway. But my preferred destination is the African bush - I need at least one solo selfdrive safari per year.
