It was visit day at my wife’s kindergarten class yesterday She was cross examined by a parent about her personal background, no doubt so he could google her. That didn’t happen when she met her first class in 1984.

I love that her teacher does this. I hope your daughter will have a great year in kindergarten!

Recently visited friends in DC. The mom and kids speak English, German and Russian. Mom almost exclusively speaks Russian to the kids because she wants them to be able to talk with her parents who still live in Russia. Super idea.

Whenever I have students in my class who speak two or more languages I always learn how to say hi and bye and then I ask them to teach me the coolest terms they know ( that aren’t bad- I teach high school). Last year, I bonded with two girls from Brazil over K-Dramas- it was so much fun!!

Growing up in a Multicultural Neighbourhood in Canada; (my parents chose it on purpose) I was so jealous of my best friend through Elementary School; that she spoke and understood 5 different languages (Eastern European). She took extra languages in HS and studied the languages of her Parents. She ended up as an Interpreter at the UN and traveled the world. I continued to be jealous!
