Because ultimately the president doesn’t write policy, they advocate for their preferences and have veto power. Executive actions have no actual staying power. So ultimately you are voting for character, and I’ll vote for someone I know is gonna just be a mediocre politician about stuff over someone I believe will do absolutely anything to gain and maintain power and won’t ever actually confirm he is NOT a threat when directly asked.
