This! My parents spoke Spanish at home and I understand it. I specifically remember ONE TIME my dad looked me in the eyes and told me to speak English properly, no slang, no accents. He said I was American but people will only see the color of my skin and assume I was a poor, uneducated, Mexican (he said that’s what THEY think all Mexicans are). If I spoke with even the slightest Spanish accent, it will be hard for me to get ahead in life. So I didn’t learn to speak Spanish growing up.
