🐧
EL BANDITO
Chinstrap Penguin
Antarctica
I wasn’t familiar with chinstrap penguins before heading to Antarctica, but they ended up being my favorite of the two types we saw (don’t tell the gentoos). Chinstraps are said to be the most abundant penguin, with a population of about 8 million breeding pairs. These birds are instantly recognizable by the black eye band that gives them their name (though I think the “straps” look more like a bandit’s eye mask).
