Grief is so strange — years later and my body reacts like the trauma is happening again? Therapists please tap in, is this normal?

Not a therapist but from personal and coaching over the years. The body holds onto things far longer than the mind. I have a friend who lost his brother years ago and each year like clockwork he feels the same heartache. Getting the body involved with healing has been a huge game changer for me and my clients. There is a book called The Body Keeps The Score that goes into this in depth.

It is normal. Your body keeps the score and psychological wounds are slower to heal. And the more wound up your nervous system is, the more likely old trauma wounds can be triggered.

As already mentioned - your body keeps the score. Check out EMDR therapy, it’s worked wonders for me (and I’ve done just about every type of therapy out there, and work closely with therapists)
