Question & advice wanted: When I first started creating my needle felted realistic dogs, I was the OG! Featured on tv, in newspapers, magazines, and even on Instagram! What a whirlwind it was. Had a huge waiting list. Now, almost 10 years later, there are 100’s of people doing the same thing & they’re very talented & sell for less than I do. My orders have almost completely stopped. What do I do? Lower my prices to compete w/others? Stay strong and wait? What would you do? Advice welcomed. Thx

Is doing the thing worth doing it just for the joy of doing it? If so, you could do whatever YOU want and just make you happy! But seriously you’re not wrong about being the OG and how tough it is out there.

2 小時內	Cyd thisknoblelife	I feel this. I made and sold Waldorf dolls for a couple decades. When Etsy arrived on the scene, it commodified something so personal & one of a kind. I never lowered my prices because I know I would get grumpy if I sold myself short and my mood would be reflected in my work. Having said that, I’m so happy I quit 3 years ago! I still make dolls for old customers who manage to find me, but other than that, I retired & I don’t miss the business side of the art at all! Good luck to you!

OMG these are jaw, dropping, beautiful, and you deserve every penny. As a toy poodle mama who is facing down the possibility of some heartbreaking circumstances, I take comfort in seeing the beauty of your work. I literally would save for a year if I had to to commission one. I wonder if maybe tweaks to your brand and copywriting positioning might be helpful.

It sucks bc you were already on TV and had all those features, but everything is always shifting. Maybe you need to go back and emphasize that you were the OG! Your work is better than all the copy cats (I’m assuming) so you should let your potential customers know that it’s worth every penny!

I wouldn’t drop prices- you are worth it! Maybe look to other forms of getting your name out there/advertising? Keep posting posting posting on Threads and Instagram!
