As it’s compressed, the air bubbles get squeezed out until it’s clear and translucent like water. This causes the ice to reflect light in much the same way that clear water does, giving it its outwardly blue hue. This is especially noticeable here in the section of ice closest to the water in the middle — which makes sense is it’s the oldest/most compressed ice in the shot. (2/2)
