I know I’m extremely slow, and this has probably been noticed millions of times, but I’ve only just realised that in the final fight of the Obi-Wan series when Anakin/Vader tells Obi-Wan “I am not your failure Obi-Wan. You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker, I did” it totally retcons and makes sense of Ben’s lie to Luke in ANH when he told Luke that Vader killed his father. Star Wars

It also makes sense of why Vader is so obsessed with claiming Luke as his son. It would be the final nail in Anakin's coffin and the complete destruction of that man's identity and legacy if Luke was Vader's son, not Anakin's. Of course, it didn't work out that way. Anakin ultimately came to his son's rescue.
