The biggest challenge for the midwestern creative is integrating but not succumbing to our cultural influences. Work ethic is good, but creativity requires “wasted time.” Our faith background is rich, but expression requires moving boundaries. Niceness makes good neighbors, but creatives paint with the full spectrum of emotion. To make our flyover places more fruitful in their creative expression we have to look differently at our roots.
