I think it coincides with the rise of surface level storytelling and the drop in media literacy. I see a lot of folks who don’t engage with a story, so if something isn’t explicitly stated then it’s a plot hole. This is the result of more stories where the focus is just getting the story beats nailed rather than telling a story. Keeping everything surface level so that it’s “good enough” rather than “good.” Hope I’m making sense here. :)
