The true evil in LOTR is the elves conservatism, wanting to preserve things and keep their dominion even though the natural order of things is for them to change. It’s that which allows all of the evil to proliferate. Galadriel is the hero who finally realises this folly when confronted with the ring itself, in the hands of a fragile hobbit. She passes the test. ROP shows this perfectly. Even with just the movies as source it’s obvious.
