Any time I do an event, I sell books because people stop and see a cute dragon on the cover and a wordy but cute title that looks like it should be a Britbox series. I had to save up to pay for my covers (and mine weren't even on the super expensive end!) but it's worth it to have a professional-looking cover, even if it means learning how to design a cover yourself with lots of hard work.
