Running advice. How do people fit in these longer runs whilst working 36-40 hour weeks. I come home exhausted and hardly ready to run. Or am i trying too achieve too much? RunningThreads

Same as others - anything over an hour is on the weekend. Usually first thing in the morning before the family gets going

Weekend mornings with an early start. I did a 5 hour run in the Peak District on Sunday and was back home by 12:45. I rarely go longer than 75 minutes on weekdays

I, like a lot of the replies, do a longer run (1-2 hr) at the weekend, early on a Sunday most weeks. I'm fortunate that I can do it, and that the rest of the house isn't usually up before I get back. However, give yourself credit, any run is better than none. If you can't do an hour, then see if you can do half an hour, or 20 minutes, they all count.

In addition to what other people have said about keeping your long runs to the weekend, it might also be the case that you're overtraining slightly and it's making you fatigued. You could try pulling back on your intensity and mileage slightly and see if your overall energy levels improve, and then gradually build back up over time?

During the week, I budget 1.5 hours a day for fitness. That is divided into strength and running. The weekend is up to two and a half hours each day with one being the long run.

I have a routine and stick to it 99% of the time, flexible working helps if able to work from home, I can turn my laptop off and get straight out the door or run before work, longest run is always Saturday or Sunday, I guess a lot depends on your job and the physical demands on you during the day too

Find your ideal time to go out for a run. E.g my ideal is morning until about lunchtime. Afternoon is completely out, my energy levels are always low. Evening is fine but not ideal.
