The 265 comes with a smaller case size that provides better fit and accuracy on smaller wrists. Many people with smaller wrists who wear the 965 either wear it tight or use it with the HRM Pro chest HR strap so it gets the HR and dynamics measurements from the strap instead of the watch.

Also worth noting that the 255 comes with the newer Elevate 5 HR sensor that is usually found on the higher end Garmin watches like the Epix Pro. That same sensor is now on the new Enduro 3 and Fenix 8. Read more about that sensor here https://the5krunner.com/2023/05/13/new-garmin-elevate-gen-5/

As such, I wouldn’t bother too much with the 165 (older sensor, doesn’t have as much data for running dynamics), and the 965 (old sensor, heavier, bigger and therefore might not fit as well on your small wrist, and do you really need maps?) The 265 brings a lot of the good stuff (data and reports) from the 965 into a more compact, lighter and better fitting form factor.
