This has just brought back a whole string of negative emotions! That list in the top corner was the bane of my life for quite some while.

At the risk of sounding contrarian, I liked this tutorial. It forced you to figure out each manoeuvre one-by-one, then identify a good way to chain them together. By the end, you'd necessarily honed ALL the driving techniques you'd need throughout the game. It was just never intended to be the kind of one-and-done tutorial that shows you a single move, then proceeds directly to the next.

You had to work for the privilege to play this game through 😂 Back when games didn’t hand hold you the whole way, or allow you to progress for a monthly fee / watching 3 billion adverts.

I remember giving up on this game then finding out you could edit the game’s code to skip it

It was to prepare you for the torture of Stuntman.

Never finished the tutorial, so it wasn't until many years later that I found out there was a story mode to it. Spent hours driving around the city in the free drive mode though.

There was 1 move I couldn’t master after weeks of trying so gave up on it. Gave it a try like a year later and fluked it first go. Once i got into the story mode, it was a great game!

Still blows my mind that Driver was such a hit when you had to basically pass an exam before it would even let you start the game. And then that final mission, driving the President's limo around town with dozens of kamikaze cop cars trying to ram you off the road. Dark Souls fans have it easy
