Always know how to get where you’re going before you leave your apartment, let people off the subway before trying to push in (even during rush hour), and stay to the right on escalators if you don’t plan to walk up or down them.

Walk quickly and with purpose, walk the escalator or stand to the right, know what you want to order when you get to the counter, ask for directions (anyone with a dog is neighborhood knowledgable), even numbered streets go east (odds go west), take advantage of the available art and culture that doesn’t exist anywhere else

If you’re looking for your first survival gig and don’t have any experience, lie. Create a fake resume. Use friends for references. Create fake emails. Getting into restaurants is hard so you gotta do what you gotta do. Highly recommend catering events too.
