I need the Americans in my life to see a cassowary. These birds are probably the closest looking thing we have to dinosaurs, and they sound like it too. They’re 6 1/2 ft (2m) tall, they can run at 30mph (50km/hr), and they have a talon on their feet that’s more than capable of entirely disemboweling you if they kick you, which is their main defence mechanism. Their natural habitat is about an hour away from my house.
