A business that can’t pay its employees a living wage should not have employees.

Agree Starbucks. They should be embarrassed for making their employees have a tips jar.

When landlords charge big money that drives up the cost of living, business isn't primarily to blame for the lack of a living wage.

So just a thought... How does that solve the actual problem? Which is employment. If businesses which pay below living wages cease to exist or scale down to no employees then wouldn't this mean unemployed people and doesn't that make matters worse?

This sounds good in theory, but the reality is, that a business’s primary purpose isn’t to improve people’s lives, it’s to provide goods or services that others want. It’s unfortunate that people need to work just to live, but it’s not the responsibility of businesses to fund someone’s lifestyle. Their role is simply to meet demand by selling what people want.

In a free market that would happen naturally. No one would work for a business that they think doesn’t pay enough. Government doesn’t need to get involved.

I agree. They should use intelligent machines. This way zero jobs will be created.

And most of those businesses do actually go out of business due to a lack of workers. And then they either go bankrupt or start paying well. Or they only hire high schoolers, which then it’s okay for a minimum wage job because it’s a high schooler.
