Does anyone else find the 'I know what I like' discourse in relation to always rating books 4+ stars odd? I also know what I like, but sometimes the book doesn't match the blurb or the summary, or an ending negatively changed the way I thought about a book, or I should have loved it but it just wasn't executed that well. And sometimes I'll keep reading a book that seems like it might not be that highly rated in the hopes it turns around, as often happens.

I’ll love an entire series *except for one book (here’s a clue…❄️ and ✨). So if someone really loves everything they read and they all get 4 stars they must be a lot better at it than I am or they are easily pleased.

8 小時內	Stephanie bookish.stephie	meee i’m one of the “i know what i like people” and end up rating most of my reads 4/5 stars! i get most of my recs from others who i know have the same taste in books as me, or i read authors which i know i love already, so when i see them read a book that’s up my alley i know i’ll most likely like it. obviously there’s occasions where i dislike a book but id say 8/10 times i love it. i rarely ever read blurbs.
8 小時內	Hana hanas_reads	hmm… I tend to rate 3 & 4 stars (5 stars super rarely) typically because I do know what I like (& I don’t mean genre ‘cause I read like ALL the genres lol), but also just because I’m not a reviewer, I’m not a critical reader, I just read for fun & my own joy & it’s just not that serious… even so, there are def times I star below 3 for the reasons you said— something happening in the end or it just not vibing. but it’s just not super common 🤷‍♀️

I'm very selective with the books I read, so rating below 3 stars is unusual to me, and DNF's don't get rated/reviewed because why should I brother.
11 小時內	gabriela gabbyam_	I think the same. I do know what I like, I been readinf my whole life and pick everything carefully, but even like that, I have been dissapointed with some books. That happens and it's okay.
12 小時內	Sirenna Blas-Arellano sirenbee_readsnthings	I think it just means they're picky about what they choose. For instance, I'm very selective. Most of my books are 4 stars, a few 5 and a few 3. The ones that I don't vibe with or that aren't being executed well, I DNF early on and I don't rate those. And in other words, why does it bother you so much 😅
