I played cello and my sister played viola. Years later my parents admitted they were thrilled when we didn’t pick violin 😂 But with orchestra being phased out in schools because of budget cuts… it makes me happy to see kids choose to learn string instruments

My 10 yo has had her heart set on playing violin. Each of my 4 kids played something. Flute, trombone, violin, and 4th really wanted to play violin too. Unfortunately we had to move to a school district that doesn’t value fine arts. There’s no orchestra or strings at all and art is once every 3 weeks in elementary. My daughter joined choir which she also loves but next year she’ll have to choose art or choir. I miss those beginning violin sounds because it makes the progress so much more amazing

Be patient, be encouraging! One of the hardest things I had to hear when I was in college was when my dad said they finally enjoyed hearing me play… I’d been playing for ten years at that point.
