Today’s school tragedy is one reason I no longer cover high school sports as an athletic trainer. Yes, our lovely state of Georgia is a dumpster fire as far as gun control is concerned, but I’m afraid this mindless violence goes much deeper than guns. I spent the last 4 years that I was in the classroom with psychologically impaired kids, and it convinced me that our mental health system is horribly broken. It also convinced me that kids who desperately crave structure are not receiving it.
