Regarding the 2nd amendment. Please refer to Article 1. Section 8. Clause 15 and 16, then read the 2nd amendment. In 1791 the US didn't have a large standing army, no national guard, travel was difficult, no phones or telegraphs. Esp for settlers on the frontier. 3 European nations also claimed most of the continent. Indigenous people were hostile to encroaching settlement.
