At my parents' place in what is *at best* a tier 4 city, and from doing a bit of searching, it seems the only place I can go for a walk with a bit of greenery is a single path that is literally 10 meters away from the highway. I have never felt so strong a desire to walk into traffic. (This is not shade on where my parents decided to retire but on how most US cities suck.)
