What is an appropriate time for waiting for your doctor appointment? I’ve had to wait up to an hour before, and I can’t be the only one who thinks this is ridiculous.

Huh. There are times when I think to myself, "I'm only running an hour behind - winning!" I have no control over the number of appointments or the complexity of the patients, and I prioritise meeting someone's needs over running on time. But I'm always sorry for making you wait. And I have not answered your question at all.

I think doctors should have a timer. They set it off for your allocated appointment time , when it goes off that’s it. You have to leave whether you’re finished or not….. imagine how that would feel.

I used to get allergy shots every week. Go in, wait, get shot, wait 30 min and leave. On time I waited and waited past my appt time, getting more and more frustrated. Until I saw a woman being wheeled out on a stretcher, having a bad reaction and heading to hospital. Then I waited and waited some more. Now a man came and said his wife was taken away and he was there for their child. A girl 4ish was with her mom when mom was taken away in ambulance. Nurses had to watch her until dad came.

I get that sometimes things happen that cause things to fall behind, but it's the complete lack of acknowledgement and no updates. I went to the dermatologist last week, second time in 6 months I waited 1.5 hrs and not so much as an apology for the wait. And no one stepped into the room to tell me anything. My appointments were an hour after they opened. If they are this behind they early in the day, I can't imagine how the afternoon patients faired.

An hour isn't great, but that's just someone having a bad day in my eyes. A lot of my doctors are on call with the hospital, so I know there's always the possibility they'll get called to something more pressing. 🤷♀️ Idk. I'm willing to wait. I do appreciate being informed about the length of wait time though, and if it's going to be longer than that. it's when it's getting to the 2 or 3 hours and they don't say anything to you that it gets rude. Like, give me the option to go get coffee

It depends on the care I get when I’m seen. For doctors who spend a long time with me, really take care to listen & address my issues, are thorough, etc, I patiently wait because I know they are giving the same great care to someone else that they will soon give to me. Same for an emergency at the surgeon’s office. But if it’s a super long wait regularly for someone who rushes me out the door due to habitual overbooking, that’s probably not a practice I’d continue to go to if I had a choice.

Well blame the chatty patient before you that asked 100000000000 questions not even relevantto the visit. Most docs get slotted for 7min appointments.

This is not the hill to die on. In other countries you could wait all day. In Western countries with single payer universal healthcare you can wait several months just to get an appointment in non rural areas and then you could be in the office all day. Just thankful you got in. And, soMetines you get what you pay for. Or don't pay for. On medicaid? Got an HMO? Use a clinic or hospital ER? You are going to wait. We also have a doctor shortage.

I’m willing to wait. Especially with my dermatologist since it takes 6 months to even get an appointment to begin with

My favorite is when they get me back into a room and say, “Okay, dr should be in to see you in about 15 minutes!” I wait, thinking this is fine. Then I get to 45 minutes of waiting. Then over an hour and I poke my head out. Get told that it’s only going to be ten more minutes. It gets to be an hour and a half. So I leave. The nurse chases me down and is like, “YoU nEeD tO bE PaTiEnT.” No I don’t. By that time, I could be home and resting in bed. Or going to Urgent Care, jeez.
