I miss just plugging a guitar into an amp and making noise. Recording direct and using amp/pedal modelers, while efficient and home-studio friendly, just doesn't hit the same.

Serious question… why not just do it the old way?

Well, pluging into an amp and recording feels A LOT like using modelers cuz you are in another room, hearing the miced cab thorugh studio monitors. What u miss is just playing with an amp in loco, so just go for it.

True. Nothing beats the feeling of being in the same room with a loud af amp.

I rarely play with my tiny amp nowadays because I’m always conscious of flatmates/neighbours so I’ve gone out of the habit. Even when staying at my parents’ house where I have my larger amp, I forget to play with the amp. But it’s SUCH a good feeling when I do and reminds me of when I started playing. That feeling of just being hit by the sound and it filling the whole room

Nothing will replace the impractical volume that moves your pant leg against your calves when you hit a power chord! I haven’t done it myself in many years…I don’t own anything over 20 watts anymore, but dammit, I remember!

I have this celestron 5 watt amp with a single tube and a switch to set it to 1 watt. Sounds great even at a really low volume and it’s tiny. It’s only slightly less convenient than direct in for me

I know what you mean. I do miss when I would track guitar parts with a Marshall JTM45 with 4x12 cab with a Big Muff pi pushed by an overdrive pedal. Can’t do that at home, but in the studio, wow, it was exhilarating.

Disagree. My helix rack is great at home for making a ton of fun noises.
