Photographers of Threads maybe you can help me here and I understand that maybe I’m just old AF… But why are we suddenly okay with delivering blurry photos for weddings to clients? Is every photographer just so strapped for cash nowadays that a flash is an unattainable expense? Bro. I got 8 flashes. I WILL LOAN YOU ONE.

Motion blur in this context can convey movement or surrealness or a sense of intoxication or all of them together. It works in more than one of these, especially if the mood at the time warranted it.

I like blurry photos I think they can be pretty dynamic, and call back to amateur film era photos. But they still have to be interesting, those examples arent really good

Blurry photos have their place if showing movement etc, it’s okay to get a lil creative but i really hope togs are still delivering sharp and in focus photos for the majority of their gallery.

This isn’t a new technique. There are a few intentionally blurry photos in my wedding day gallery from almost a decade ago.

As a part of a collection/album this is totally fine. And if you are indeed old AF then you would know that people nowadays want to get back to the age u can remember when every photo didn’t have to be absolutely perfect. Or try to emulate film. Like using flash in broad daylight to create visual effect of a time when flash was always used. Didn’t help that you posted awesome shots lol (with the exception of #2 but still even then-story telling device. Booze flows at weddings 😂)

Neewer’s 300W battery powered strobe is like $250. There’s no excuse! Remember when Nikon charged $500 for the SB-900?

I don't get it either. You pay 4-5000$ on a camera to do that? I know it's just a trend thing, but all trends come and go. I, for one, will never do stuff like that.

It’s art & art is subjective. Just like movies slow down film or use unique lighting, angles, settings to convey feelings in the story. It’s the same. Of course the rest of the gallery isn’t like this but a few sprinkled in gives emotion & storytelling. Paired with other creative techniques, it’s cinematography. Let ppl have fun & be creative. As long as clients know who they’re hiring & have seen full galleries, what does it matter? Since when did get say photogs can’t be creative anymore?

People more and more don’t want cookie cutter “perfection” that looks like every other wedding photo. They want emotion, a story, hints of something that isn’t literal. I’m a fine art photographer and rarely do weddings. But more and more people are asking me to do them in my style because they want something unique, artistic, different. I only agree if I have complete artistic freedom and the understanding that there will be nothing typical.
