I went to my first Quaker meeting last night since 2018. Right before I entered the simple, silent space, I had coffee with some rowdy leftists. One of them quoted Paul Tillich to me, “Accept that you are accepted.” As I sat in the silence, my brain raced chaotically. I couldn’t find my quiet center. I couldn’t listen. So, instead, I silently repeated the mantra “Accept that you are accepted.” It was hard. And it was exactly right.
