Pronouncing SQL as ‘sequel’ necessarily validates also pronouncing it ‘squeal’

Yes, but only when the database files are stored on hard disks. If the files are stored on SSDs, it's pronounced "sequel", because SSDs are the sequel to HDDs.

i have heard it called 'squeal'. fun fact, the san carlos airport, next to oracle corporation on the sf peninsula, is SQL. that is not intentional.

The ONLY way you can pronounce it with a word and for it to make sense is school. Literally the only one. If you say sequel you're just plain wrong, if you say squeal you're trolling. So it's either es-ku-el or school. Nothing else.
