I have a rats nest in a pallet a few feet from my kitchen back door… i really don’t want to poison them so I’m hoping if I remove the pallets they will just move further down down the garden, am I just being naive?

If you displace them they might be more likely to move in to your house (or down the garden!). We had a rats nest in our garden (after a derelict building across the road from us was demolished and displaced them) and for fear of our neighbours poisoning them (and therefore poisoning our cats) I caught them (the rats, not the neighbours) drove them 2 miles out into the countryside and released them. Depends if you can cope giving a rat a lift in your car 😅 They do shout a lot in the traps.

you may uncover evidence that they already have entrance to your foundation or walls. First step is to remove these sheltered areas and remove food sources.

They might just find their way into your house. Under the floor and in the wall spaces. Then one will chew through the electrics. Dead rat in a wall takes a lot of air freshener.

There are also humane traps that you can then relocate them. They also don’t like strong smells like essential oils. Or lots of water

I’m just thinking in another years time you will have Quadruple rats in your garden 🙄🤔🫤

I went for humane traps and a nice little trip to open land two miles away. They have not returned 😁
