Some history… Starting with the Old Testament , what was “ written” as God in Hebrew was a mix of “Yahweh” and “El,”. El was a Canaanite God along with many others including Baal( they were pantheist) The Israelites took El-Yahweh and became monotheist , which is why they’re so against Baal. Because they were persecuted by regional powers, the Israelites longed to be free and developed the “messiah”- a figure sent by god( but NOT a god ) to free them and set up gods kingdom on earth .
