Not new, but I go back to Hämäläinen’s Comanche Empire for its number crunching on the collapse of the southern buffalo herd. It’s made me think more about natural resource management. I’m also fond of Smithers’ Cherokee Diaspora, again not particularly new, but it provides insight into how people decide their identities.

Haven’t dove into them yet, but just got both of these at the @librarycongress National Book Festival. Also saw the authors speak on a panel and they were incredible!
