This is why I hate Lynch films, apart from Dune 84. Film is a medium to tell stories and a story has to have some kind of coherency or logic for me to understand and care about what's happen.

The wonderful thing about film is it can be anything. Also, twin peaks has coherency and logic, so this isn’t really his piece to make this point on, wait til someone posts about eraserhead

Film is a medium for art and artistic expression. Nothing about it inherently has to tell stories. David Lynch evokes mood, and emotion in ways no one else does. He is an artist. You don't have to be a fan, his work is certainly not for everyone, but he is a master at his own style, and has been widely influencial to countless other artists for decades.

Twin Peaks is pretty easy to follow, honestly. Just watch it with the mindset of “what if the crazy shit that happens in soap operas was treated realistically”

David Lynch films *are* coherent though. “Elephant Man” is incredibly straightforward, as is “Wild at Heart”. “Mulholland Drive” isn’t nearly as inscrutable as prople make it out to be. You just have to pay attention: The plot points are not always spoon fed to you.

Film is not a medium to tell stories, that is simply one way film has been used and is most popular.

I categorize his work as abstract films

If you're looking for answers from Lynch then you're really in the wrong place. All you'll ever get is more questions. Some things can not be told. It has to be felt.

I view them as mysteries that I have to figure out for myself. At this point, they all make sense to me. Well, there are some aspects of the Twin Peaks revival I haven’t figured out, but that’s part of the fun. I find Lynch’s movies to be infinitely rewatchable since I find something new every time.

First two seasons are easy to understand, third one... Well it is a trip for sure

Despite the fact that I despise David Lynch, that is a very narrow, reductive, limited view of film as an art form. If you were to say Stan Brakhage was a bad filmmaker because he doesn't conform to your idea of what film as a medium must involve and do successfully, you would be missing the entire point, significance and artistic value of his work.
