It sort of depends on the kid and the kind of visit we’re having. My husband or I continued to accompany my 18 yr old to specialists where we took notes, helped with history, long after we let him go to our family Dr alone for normal office visits.

Honestly, didn’t start going alone until I got on my own insurance 😂

In the UK whatever age they are Gillick competent, it varies from child to child. Once they reach the age of 16 they can make their own medical decisions so have a right to see a dr without parents being present.

Nurse and mom- when they ask to go alone, my kids are clingy though and still young so they want me there to talk. Our clinic offers access to personal portal at 13 which some parents get really upset about that ( i think its an important part of getting older and learning to manage your own health records. ) you also dont have to consent to it either people just dont read.

18 is considered an adult with their own Hippa Rights before18 is considered a minor and a adult guardian should be present for medical and financial decisions

I take my 15 year old only because she can’t drive. Female doctor so she goes in alone sometimes
