On way way to London. This is the train I used to get every day. It always used to be full. The ticket cost me £76.20 for the day. It’s no wonder the carriages are empty.

It’s empty because of work from home / hybrid working since the pandemic, in which most people who are able to, work from home on a Friday. And most of those commuters from the South Coast are able to. It’s far busier during the middle of the week. That said continual fare rises, let’s be clear, *driven explicitly by government policy since privatisation*, have made peak time rail travel unaffordable to most.

What route? I've not been on a train into London since Covid on a work day, but before covid, catching trains from Woking as near enough last stop on the fast trains into Waterloo, it was always standing room only by the time they got to Woking. Sometimes couldn't even get on. Prices were still silly money peak time even then and didn't stop people.

If tickets were cheaper and the trains more efficient then people would use them.

It was always a lot quieter on Fridays than other days as most part-time workers don't do Fridays.

Its a Friday. No TWATS. (Those who only go into the office on Tues,Weds, & Thurs)

Hold up...this is disingenuous... £76.20 is the most expensive fair, with an all day tube travel added. The cheapest is £25 on the day.

£93 a day for me to get to Waterloo from down the coast in Fareham. Unless I've booked 9 years in advance and will definitely only get one train at a specific time via a random route. My TWaT trains are normally full, too

Pretty sure that is a Gatwick Express train. Which is, I think, well known as the most expensive option between Brighton and London, though probably a tad quicker than the alternatives. Guessing it’s quiet because the smart money took Thameslink. It is worth shopping around. It is possible to do that route for a fraction of the price.
