On the subject of pride in Britain: I was sitting in the window of a Costa yesterday lunchtime, looking out onto Exeter high street. My eye was drawn to the people passing. 80% overweight. Many obese, some clinically. Faces stressed. Poorly dressed. It’s easy to feel the opposite of pride. But in my lifetime there have been significant advances in citizens rights, human knowledge and technology. There is still a lot of room for improvement.
