When I think back to my worst fears starting high school in the early 90’s in Australia, it was having my head flushed down the toilet, the boys pulling up my dress while standing in line at the canteen, or having my hair pulled. At the end of the school year, the senior students would throw eggs and water balloons at other students on their last day of school. The only metal detector was in the library to prevent theft of books. We didn’t have to worry about gun violence or knife attacks.
