seriously considering buying a vintage 90s synth for a full digital setup. Yamaha QY70, Roland SC-88, or a Yamaha MU-128 I just found. or a new VCO....

What about something like mini dexed in either standalone or module form? https://www.genxnoise.com/product-page/minidexed-midi-tone-module

Vintage digital is dangerous. Capacitors are near the end of their lives. I lost a Korg X3 a couple of years ago, keys and midi work but no sound. I bought a Yamaha MoDX7 as a replacement. Very happy with its ability to do everything.

I have an EX5R and I definitely need to spend more time with it! Programming it is a chore, I find.
