I imagine that it's more like a BOTH/AND scenario here. While I'm not a "big" narrator, the readers who know me now mostly know me because of The Book of Azrael or A Soul To Heal. Both authors have large fanbases and market well. They're very well known in their niches. But as readers have found me because of those books/series, some have explicitly told me they were buying other books I had done. I work really hard to market myself and market my projects, so it seems symbiotic.
