Yep! Butternut, acorn, and long neck/yellow squash. Zucchini and pumpkin get special distinction. Also there’s different varieties of pumpkins. Sugar pumpkin (also called pie or sweet pumpkin) is for baking but most people just get canned.

zucchini and yellow squash are called “summer squash.” tender skin, tender flesh. the winter squash have thicker skin and harder flesh that needs cooking, but that means they can last on your counter (or in storage) alllllll winter long.

My husband is British and he also calls butternut pumpkin, squash.
