My dad’s brother was diagnosed a couple weeks ago with a disease called Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. If you don’t know what it is, it’s a degenerative brain disorder that leads to dementia and death. It may occur spontaneously, be inherited, or be transmitted by contact with infected tissue, such as during a transplant or from eating contaminated meat. The condition causes personality changes, anxiety, depression, memory loss, usually within a few months. Many people lapse into a coma.
