Taylor Swift is a genre all her own. Olivia Rodrigo is the Gen z equivalent to Avril Lavigne

I don’t like this mode of analogy. Of saying person a is person b because of course they aren’t. Even as an Olivia fan I think the potential is there, but she’s put out two albums that were both great. But the number of artists with a few great albums is pretty high and most of Taylor’s peers in 2010 or 2015 have all either retired or put music on low boil and moved on to other works. I won’t say that Olivia couldn’t match Taylor but she’s got to do it for a decade.

Can we stop comparing women like this? Taylor is still very active and not in search of a successor. And she's a huge supporter of the talented young women who are up and coming.
