In the context of art what is intent? What does it mean to you? Sometimes it feels like this word gets thrown around to legitimize or deligitimize someone's work. Is there ever anything created without intent?

Yes I think plenty of art is created without intent! Art does not need to be logical or motivated or intentional, it does not need to contain within it a purpose or a message. It can come right out of the soul, in a surreal mess, it can be divinely inspired, it can be demonically inspired... it can sometimes simply spring out of you with no intent, and take its own form, as if it created itself. Its a rhythm that you follow, not an argument that you make, and it can be intentional or not

I think it's not the best word to use in analyzing someone's work, but to me it means how easy it is for the one experiencing the art work to connect different elements within a piece of art. So if the whole set of art works is for example entirely in one colour, that feels extremely intentional.
