Ladies with children. Some kind advice please? Our youngest son is 19 and still lives with us. We recently built a house and a garage block and put him in the small, self contained flat over the garage. He works full time (3years now) and works very hard indeed - I cannot fault his work ethic, out 70-80hrs a week, drives hundreds of miles. HOWEVER. His flat is a disgrace. A terrible place. He’s had an infestation of mice, leaves food around his bed constantly, doesn’t seem to know how to 1/2

It's important to talk to your son; communication is key. Let him know that he will need to spend some money to keep his house tidy. As you’ve already said, you feel sorry for his future wife. Your son is lucky to have a roof over his head and his own personal space. You seem like a good mother, and your husband sounds very reasonable too.

If not mice will be fattened up and maybe cockroaches as well. Have a talk with him about it. He is an adult now and we moms (I’m like you), must stop enabling out sons. It is hard mom, but you’ll get past this and you will enjoy watching him take over his responsibilities. Have a blessed day.

With the proviso that if he fails an inspection he needs to get a cleaner. That way he has a chance to correct it but you aren't left with mice.
