All stories have tropes. Just because it’s less common or subverted doesn’t mean a story has none. They cross all genres, because they’re related to our social learning, and provide a framework to easily express complex concepts. Some tropes are rooted in bigotry and deserve to be deconstructed. Many aren’t that specific. We write them whether it’s deliberate or not, otherwise the story is unrecognizable. You likely have preferred tropes too, if you examine the media you favor.
